Detox tomato soup with root vegetables and homemade pesto

Detox tomato soup with root vegetables! Root vegetables such as carrots, beetroot, onions and celeriac are great cleaning ingredients. They support the cleaning of the liver which make them a great choice for every meal. Tomatoes are very low in calories and packed with health benefits, as is the same for all the ingredients in this soup. They are also very popular in detox recipes. I prefer the cherry tomatoes because  they are much tastier and more aromatic than the usual toms.

The benefits of this soup continue with the herbs and spices that have been chosen to match the flavours,  some great detoxicants. The high levels of nutrients and antioxidants make this detox soup a great immunity booster, helping to protect you from cold and flu’s during the cold months and giving you an energy boost as well.

Turmeric and ginger are some of the top detox spices giving a great spicy kick to the soup. Garlic is one of the best immunity boosters and also giving the soup a good balance of flavour with the tomatoes. Oregano and basil have high levels of antioxidants and are both good supporters of the immune system.


Detox tomato and root vegetable soup with homemade pesto

Tomato, celeriac, carrot and beetroot soup, aromatic, spicy and easy


  • 2 TBSP of coconut oil
  • 300 gr. ripe tomatoes (cherry toms are best)
  • 1 cup of diced celeriac
  • ½ small diced beetroot
  • 1 medium-sized carrot (finely chopped)
  • 2 large cloves of garlic
  • 4-5 spring onions
  • a handful of fresh basil
  • 1 TBSP freshly ground ginger
  • 1 TBSP oregano
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • salt and pepper of taste

  1. In a saucepan on a low heat add the coconut oil, chopped garlic, spring onions, turmeric and black pepper. Simmer for about 5 minutes
  2. Add a bowl with boiled water into the pan along with the carrots. Followed by the celeriac and beetroot.
  3. At the end, add the tomatoes and leave to simmer until everything is nice and soft for about 5 minutes.
  4. Just before its done add the ginger, basil, oregano and salt.
